La Escuela Sueca de Textiles en la Semana de la Moda de Londres

La Escuela Sueca de Textiles continúa el recorrido donde muestran su trabajo de grado a la prensa internacional reunida. Durante la Semana de la Moda de Londres, the bachelor and master students in fashion design put on a massive show presenting the graduate work and M.A. students.

Seven MA graduates and seventeen BA graduates showcased their collections base don the future of fashion. Each collection explored themes of power, gender and identity, with the aim to break pre-conceived ideas of what defines fashion. By exploring varying topics such as gender-issues, fetishes, awkwardness, identity and 20th-century anti-war movements, all the collections were incredibly innovative and eye-catching.

The designers used alternative materials such as plastisol, wool and furniture and focused on adding volumen, pattern, estampados, color, hand weaving, draping and padding to their work. The twenty-four collections were creative, colourful and diverse, with each individual collection having an unique story to tell. Through their projects and analyses, the students learn to relate to current research and what may develop the field.

The Swedish School of Textiles’ participation at London Fashion Week has become something of a tradition, and for the students it is a chance to show their work to an international audience.

After graduation, many of the students move on to being employed at large or small-scale fashion companies in Sweden or abroad, while others set up their own freelance business or continue studying for a PhD. Clearly, it means so much for their entire future as a designer. It is a really fun experience and something that we all look forward to.

The collections on display celebrate re-used fibres and push the boundaries of our preconceived views on how clothes “ought” to look in relation to gender and movement, that unfortunately resulted in some sameness, including the use of poles, trompe l’oeil fabric prints, and camp pot holder–style chunky weavings.

The swedish school of textiles, a part of the university of borås, was founded in 1866, and currently has roughly 900 students from all over the world, participating in seven undergraduate programmes and six postgraduate programmes. All focus on textiles, and are divided into three areas; vestir, engineering and management. Our facilities include modern lecture theatres and well equipped laboratories that cater for everything related to textiles.
